- Millbrook produces and presents approximately 110 performances each season, and your sponsorship ensures a diversity of stories on our stages.
- Every summer Millbrook employs over 80 professional actors, designers, musicians, crew and interns from Philadelphia, New York City and some of the most renowned theatre training programs across the country. Your sponsorship ensures our staff receives equitable pay, housing, and meals while they are employed at Millbrook.
- Millbrook provides several programs that engage youth and senior audiences and participants, including: partnerships with local schools and camps, senior previews of shows, and curriculum based programs in the spring for local students. Your sponsorships ensures the continuation of these educational and community programs.
- An average arts attendee spends $24.60 per event, not including the cost of admission. On the national level, these audiences provided $74.1 billion of valuable revenue for local merchants and their communities (Arts & Economic Prosperity Report). Your sponsorship helps not just the Playhouse, but all of the surrounding businesses positively impacted by our presence in the community.
BECOME A 2023 SEASON SPONSOR
Dear Neighbor,
I’m Shannon Agnew, Producing Artistic Director of the Millbrook Playhouse. We are a professional summer theater, our mission is to provide quality, professional live theater, and foster audience and student development through strong educational programs. Millbrook has stood as a cultural institution for Central Pennsylvania for six decades, but now we face a perfect storm of financial uncertainty. As we began producing our 60th season which will be enjoyed by approximately 8,000 audience members, employ over sixty five professional theater artists, and educate upwards of sixty students, our housing expenses unexpectedly tripled leaving us in a dangerous financial situation. We are asking you to help us recover from this significant financial setback, and make a donation or become a season sponsor so we can continue to bring live theater to Central Pennsylvania.
In order to make sure our staff is cared for as they join us from all over the country, we provide dinner every night and housing to all of our non local staff at Lock Haven University. This year with the integration of Lock Haven into Commonwealth University, they raised our housing rental cost from $14,000.00 to $44,000.00 with no notice. This expense, piled on with our theater’s slow recovery from the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic, make our future extremely uncertain. We understand that Commonwealth University must make the best decisions for their own organization, and now we are calling on you to secure our future, and join us as a season sponsor. Your sponsorship could make the difference.
It takes a magical mindset, and an unshakeable fearlessness to stand in the center of a dairy barn and imagine a community gathering place, a haven for artists, and a cultural institution in Clinton County. But our founder’s dream paid off, as we have provided sixty years of affordable, professional theater for our community, curated valuable theatrical experiences for local youth in our educational programs, and launched the professional careers of countless artists now working at some of the most prestigious theaters in the world. This year, we are also overjoyed that we could expand our educational mission by providing a camp for elementary school students with our Little’s Camp, through a partnership with PA CareerLink to give a local student professional scenic shop experience, and by sending teaching artists from Millbrook to provide theater workshops in the Keystone Camp at Robb and Renovo this June. The access we provide to arts education and to young professional artists is critical, and I know because I am a direct beneficiary of it. I began my professional career at this theater nine years ago and today I am honored to serve as the Artistic Director. I want to make sure that Millbrook stays alive, to serve our patrons, educate our region’s youth, and make sure the same opportunities that were there for me are there for the next generation of artists. I hope you can join me in securing that dream.
We are looking to the future, but we cannot get there without your help. Becoming a season sponsor of the Millbrook Playhouse helps ensure that our theater can continue to bring Clinton County extraordinary performances, grow our educational programming, and begin to recover from the heavy financial impacts of our housing costs. I would be honored to answer any questions you have, and help you become a sponsor at the Playhouse. Together, I know we can make sure Millbrook stays a cultural gem in Clinton County for the next sixty years.
On behalf of everyone at Millbrook, thank you with all of my heart,
Shannon Agnew
